If you’ve ever met Simon, the one thing you’ll notice is that he’s almost always smiling but Simon told us that wasn’t always the case. When he was eight years old he was diagnosed with dyslexia and as a result was sent to another school, because of that he became really down and felt that he wasn’t quite good enough. Simon told us it was that feeling that drove him to want to prove people wrong and it was at that point he decided to follow his heart and start doing the right things that made him feel happy instead, including pursuing sports. Ultimately that led to him becoming a champion and one of the most knowledgeable guys in the field of nutrition, throwing off that label he’d been given as a child of not quite ever being good enough.

Simon told us that as a result of feeling down as well as unloved by his parents, due the relationship between them having always been a difficult one, he spent a lot of time in his room alone. He said he always remembers kind of talking to God and always feeling safe and protected and growing up was taught at Sunday school that God was his Father and loved him.

When I asked Simon why he wanted to get involved with the Fight for the Fatherless, he told me now that he had his own children he never wants them to feel unloved and alone and feels that being a part of what we’re aiming to do, gives him that same chance to encourage others just like you to not feel alone in the same way that he did as well.
His message to you is simple. Follow your heart and always, always try and do the right thing.
